I loved Less Than Zero, and have become increasingly disppointed by his later writing, most especially Lunar Park so am a little wary of the imminent publication of Imperial Bedrooms. But then someone who managed to to capture such a specific voice of youth in such a specific bubble of time can not be immune to the passage of time himself. So it can I suppose, only be natural that he sounds like a middle aged guy trying to sound like Bret Easton Ellis. Because he just is a middle aged Bret Easton Ellis. He isn't the same precocious and arrogant young man, experience can't help but take that away. I'm still excited about the new book, but a little fearful at the same time. But BEE himself is still pretty awesome, a paragon of branding.
